BART Opening, Human Race Planned for May 10

Saturday, May 10 will be a busy day in Hacienda as the Volunteer Center's annual Human Race combines with BART's opening celebration to create a day filled with fun.

BART Opening

From music to magicians and more, a host of activities are planned for the grand opening of BART's Dublin/Pleasanton extension on May 10. The events begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 4:00 p.m. Everything is free.

"We want to encourage everyone in the area to participate," says Jim McGrath, who is coordinating the event for BART.

McGrath reports that many attractions will be on hand, including a batting cage sponsored by the Oakland A's.

On the entertainment front, a variety of musical acts will be performing, including a bluegrass band and country line dancers as well as entertainment for children.

Join the Human Race

With BART opening that morning, it will be possible for participants in the eighth annual Human Race to use the transit service to travel to the event. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and the race starts at 8:30.

The Human Race is a certified 5K/10K run/walk to raise money for nonprofit agencies, schools, churches and service groups in Alameda County. Businesses recruit walkers and runners to gather pledges for the organization of their choice. Individuals are also welcome. The course begins at the AT&T Center.

This year, several Hacienda businesses are participating, including: Dillingham Construction, Dreyer's Ice Cream, Hexcel, OOCL, People-Soft, Vanstar, and Wal*Mart.
