New Housing Approved for Hacienda

540-Unit Complex to be Located at Hacienda and Owens Drives

Plans have been unveiled for a 540-unit apartment complex to be built on over 23 acres of land at Hacienda and Owens drives. The complex will include a recreation area with two pools as well as access to two new public parks to be built in conjunction with the project.

"With the growth of Hacienda and its proximity to BART, there's been an increased demand for housing," says Shyam Taggarsi of Security Capital Pacific Trust, the project's developer. "We're excited about the opportunity to become part of the Hacienda community."

An Upscale Development

The concept for this site is an upscale, garden-style apartment community with site planning and recreational amenities designed to accommodate singles as well as families. The apartments will be placed in a series of three-story buildings grouped around landscaped courtyards.

The spacious apartments feature a variety of amenities, including 9-foot ceilings with crown moldings, central heating and air conditioning, built-in bookcases with computer desks, and wiring for up to six telephone lines. The size of each apartment will range from 795 square feet for one bedroom, one bath units to 1,313 square feet for 3 bedroom, 3 bath units. Rents will range from $1,100 to $1,675 monthly, with substantial discounts given on 135 units which will be priced in accordance with local affordable housing guidelines.

The development will also feature two centrally located swimming pools along with a recre ation center, spas, and a cabana. An exercise room will be built onsite, and several outdoor recreation areas will be equipped with barbecue equipment and picnic areas.

Two New Public Parks

Two new public parks will be built in conjunction with the complex. A 3-acre park with picnic benches and tot lot adjacent to the existing linear park will be accessible from Owens Drive via a tree -lined entry. Thanks to the efforts of Prudential, Hacienda's primary developer, a larger, 6.6-acre park, designed for active uses such as soccer and basketball, will be accessible from the linear park via a foot bridge over Tassajara Creek.
