For many children, out of school means out of food. Please help fight hunger this summer by participating in the Freedom From Hunger Food Drive running from July 12th through August 31st.
Approximately 35% of the hungry people in Alameda County are children. When school ends for the summer, these students lose access to school breakfast and lunch programs which they rely upon to meet their nutritional needs. This increases their need for food at a time when the food supply of the Alameda County Community Food Bank is low.
The Freedom From Hunger Food Drive begins with a kick off event on July 12th at the Safeway parking lot in Pleasanton located on the corner of Santa Rita Road and Valley Avenue. Food will be collected at this fun filled event featuring local performers and giveaway items. After the kick off event there are many ways to continue the momentum and contribute towards the drive. Simple ways to contribute include: hosting a food drive collection barrel and encouraging employees and customers to donate nutritious food for children; hosting a fund drive by encouraging people to donate money to the Food Bank (the Food Bank can provide four meals for only one dollar); or organizing a volunteer group to donate time at the Food Bank.
