Hacienda and the Livermore Valley Opera are pleased to announce a great opportunity for the 2023-24 Season. The Livermore Valley Opera is presenting highly anticipated performances of Of Mice and Men by Carlisle Floyd and The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The mission of Livermore Valley Opera (LVO) is to enrich the community by producing world-class operas, fostering the careers of professional opera singers, and encouraging a wider appreciation of opera and the associated arts through community outreach and educational programs for youth. Enjoy this opportunity to see the operas performed at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore (Livermore Valley Arts). Livermore Valley Arts is dedicated to offering a broad range of arts opportunities and experiences to engage the East Bay community.
The Livermore Valley Opera invites the public to join them in the upcoming 2023-24 season for what promises to be a remarkable event. The Livermore Valley Opera is extending a special opportunity to Hacienda employees and residents to experience these performances at 15% savings off the regular ticket price. This offer is good for all tiers except Rows G and F center. During the first two weekends of October, 2023, audiences can enjoy a premier work by Carlisle Floyd, arguably the greatest of America’s 20th Century opera composers, who has adapted to the operatic stage Nobel Prize winning John Steinbeck’s powerful novella, Of Mice and Men, detailing a tragic story of two displaced migrant ranch workers in California during the Great Depression. Their dream of owning their own land one day ends instead in tragedy. The drama and powerful music will grip your heartstrings and the opera’s plea for compassion and hope is as timely now as when John Steinbeck wrote his novella in 1937. In the opinion of the late composer himself, this is his greatest operatic achievement. During the first two weekends of March, 2024, audiences can enjoy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Magic Flute. Prince Tamino is pursued by a dragon into a magical land of fantasy where, aided by three mysterious ladies, he seeks to rescue the beautiful Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night, from the powerful Sarastro. With the assistance of the bird-catcher Papageno, he finds that nothing is quite as it first seems in this allegory about a quest for truth, beauty and pure love. Beautiful music and some of the most memorable arias in opera, paired with a cast of fanciful characters, make this Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s crowning operatic achievement.
