Company Specializes in Move-Up & Luxury Homes
The American dream of owning your own home comes true for many people in communities built by Standard Pacific Homes.
The Irvine-based home builder specializes in homes in high demand because of their location, quality and design.
"Standard Pacific Homes is a leading builder of move-up and luxury homes across the country," Tom Burrill, the company's Bay Area president, said. "We're actually celebrating our 50th anniversary. We've been operating up here in the Bay Area about 40 years. We've been in the Hacienda business park about 25 years."
Standard Pacific recently relocated within Hacienda for a space better suited to the company's needs.
"We moved to an office that was better configured for us," Burrill said. "We were looking for a location that was designed to fit our specific needs and a location that was more convenient to the freeway."
Roughly 25 of the Bay Area's 60 Standard Pacific employees are based in Hacienda.
"All of the management, design, construction, sales and customer service are handled out of this office," he said.
Standard Pacific Homes is currently selling in communities in Dublin, Hayward, San Jose, Tracy and Vacaville. New communities will open this summer in Fremont and Tracy with others to follow in Mountain House, Gilroy and Morgan Hill.
The company's homes draw people who are moving up from their first home, eager to get into a nicer community or searching for a luxury home.
Move-up homes are "a step above what you'd consider a first-time buyer home," Burrill explained. "It can be a bigger home or it could be a home in a more desirable area in a good school district or commute friendly."
Standard Pacific Homes aims to build homes in desirable areas with good schools, commute options and proximity to jobs.
"We absolutely try to locate where there's connectivity to jobs," he said. "In some cases, it's BART and the ACE Train, and in some cases it's just proximity to the major freeways."
"A year ago, we had four different communities open in Dublin across all different price points," he added. "Our smallest homes were (priced) in the mid 700s, but people were moving there for the schools. It may not have been a bigger home, but it was an excellent home in a great school district."
Standard Pacific, with homes in seven states, has been recognized as a leader in new home quality. The company was recently named by Fortune magazine as one of the world's most admired companies.
"We pride ourselves in our quality of construction," Burrill said. "We have a corporate philosophy of doing the right thing, so we treat our customers really well. The combination of desirable locations, quality homes and treating our customers right is a winning formula."
The company also has a mortgage division, making it possible for home buyers to get competitive financing.
The design of Standard Pacific's homes has also helped make them an industry leader.
"We focus a lot on open floor plans," he noted "We focus on connectivity to the outdoors either through outdoor living areas or more windows to let more light into the living areas. We focus on kitchens, great rooms and master bedrooms where people generally spend a lot of their time. Those are open and generous spaces."
