Pleasanton Celebrates Annual Heritage Days

The 11th Annual Heritage Days Celebration will take place starting Friday, September 14th. The Celebration is sponsored by the Downtown Business Association, the Chamber of Commerce and the Pleasanton Art League.

For the duration of Heritage Days, the town of Pleasanton, and her people, travel back in time to the days of old. They celebrate old Pleasanton, with a series of events and happenings. The week of celebration is colored by the old western theme which prevails in Pleasanton, but most of all, on Main Street.

Although compete details are not available at this time, we thought you might like to know about some of the more timely details that need immediate attention for participation.

For example, the Heritage Days Parade is quite an event. It will be held on Saturday, September 22 at 10:00. All entries are encouraged. However, entry deadline is August 31st, so hurry down to the Chamber of Commerce and pick up your application.

There will be an art show and a street faire all week long, but all of the street faire booths have already been reserved. However, if you are interested in a food booth, there might still be some space available. Call Helen Allin at 455-0249 for more information. If you would like more information on the art show, you can call George Akers at 846-7540.

The celebration will also feature the 2nd annual quiche eating contest, "The Pan-Man Triathlon,” sponsored by Scotland Yard. The entrants were all selected and they will be competing by invitation only. The contest will help kick off Heritage Days.

Also on the agenda are the 1st Annual Kaleidoscope Bed Race; the "Roving Jail,” which picks up criminals who haven't donned their western garb and bolds them for bail; a 4-H country fair; a dunking booth, (the dunkees are all Pleasanton City Council candidates) the 1st Annual Heritage Days 10K and Fun Run (additional details found elsewhere in this issue); and much, much more.

We'll be keeping you up-to-date on the festivities as they develop. Until then, polish up those boots and dust off your old cowboy hat ... it's almost time for Heritage Days in Pleasanton!
