First Edison Simplifies Commercial Solar Systems

First Edison provides commercial energy solutions to commercial, industrial, and manufacturing clients. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, an average of 30% of the energy used in commercial buildings is wasted. First Edition helps clients address that issue. The firm specializes in solving complex energy problems for clients by helping them reduce expenses through generating their own energy with the latest in solar technology.

The company provides efficient solar solutions to utilities, municipalities, industrial companies, and other organizations–from small-to-midsize businesses to global enterprises. It has delivered a variety of solutions, including ground mount, rooftop, carport, and tracking. The principals of First Edison have facilitated and installed over 100 megawatts of solar systems, according to the company, which also offers clients the opportunity for additional savings and reduced energy costs by offering integrated storage solutions for commercial solar systems.

"Our mission is to navigate the choppy waters of PG&E regulations and rate increases for our clients, then provide a customized solar solution and application that creates a hedge on raising energy costs," says Dashile Miguele, an Energy Analyst and Solar Designer Consultant for First Edison. "We have energy storage solutions as well. We make going solar simple and easy."

For appropriate clients, First Edison can set up a complete Energy Monitoring and Control Platform for their commercial property portfolios, allowing them complete visibility into and control over the energy usage at their properties. The company also offers flexible financing solutions. Clients can use existing credit facilities or property-based or power-purchase-based capital. According to company officials, clients have access to "an efficient financing process and a reliable funding source for commercial-scale energy projects."

First Edison's many projects include erecting a 400-kilowatt (kW) parking lot solar canopy system at Cox Automotive Wholesale in Hayward. Such systems, which may include chargers for electric vehicles, are in high demand, according to Miguele. Roof and ground-based systems also remain popular. The company added 914 new solar panels to the roof of VillaSport Athletic Club and Spa, for example, in 2020. The lifetime energy savings for the client is estimated to be $2.8 million. For the headquarters of Veeva Systems, another Hacienda tenant, First Edison oversaw reroofing and the installation of a 33-kW roof-mount solar system with 900 solar panels for an estimated lifetime energy savings of $3.6 million.

"We get the job done right, first time," notes Miguele. Client solar systems come with a power guarantee and are monitored constantly, every day. "We can provide a whole host of references, information, and job sites upon request."

First Edison opened its headquarters at Hacienda in November 2016. It also has a satellite office in Fremont. "The main reason First Edison Solar is located in Pleasanton is to service the homes and businesses of the Tri-Valley area," says Miguele. From Hacienda, "we are easily accessible in all cases of emergency."
