Royal Theater Academy Supports Community Education

Royal Theater Academy (RTA) is an educational community theater company dedicated to nurturing and enriching lives through the transformative power of the theater arts for participants of all ages. RTA works to create a safe environment for community members to have quality theater experiences, while using theater productions to teach essential life skills, including social skills, self-empowerment, teamwork, and emotional awareness. The Dublin-based organization most recently produced School of Rock: The Musical at Livermore High School earlier this month.

“One of the standout qualities of the Royal Theater Academy is our commitment to inclusivity,” says Trenton Torain, President and one of the founders. “At RTA, anyone who registers has the chance to step onto the stage as a performer in our productions. In many cases, access to the world of theater is often restricted. What sets RTA apart is that whether you're returning to the theater after a hiatus or stepping onto the stage for the first time, regardless of your age, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in high-quality theater. You can grow as a performer over time, while also building community and having the opportunity to perform with family and friends.”

The nonprofit corporation has received an abundance of heartfelt testimonials from adults who believed their theater days were behind them, only to discover a newfound passion and enthusiasm, according to Torain. “Additionally, we've witnessed the remarkable formation of unbreakable bonds among our young participants, who fearlessly tackle challenging content and productions together and become inseparable friends. The theater has a unique power to forge lifelong connections, a truth that resonates across all age groups and skill levels within our theater community.

Some RTA productions have had nearly 100 people on stage at one time. The inclusivity factor can bring some aesthetic challenges, notes Torain, “but we have over ten years of team experience, making it magical.” The nonprofit’s Spring Showcase is a partnership with the City of Dublin. Called RTA’s Musical Mashup, it will be held at Dublin High School on February 3, 2024 at 2 pm.

Registration is open for those who want to participate in RTA’s Spring Musical, Oliver. Rehearsals run from February 20 to June 22, 2024. Performances will be held between June 22 and June 30, 2024. Registration for RTA’s all-day Summer Camp Production, Finding Nemo Kids, is expected to open on or shortly after January 1, 2024. The summer camp accepts children seven to 13 years of age, and will be held from July 8 to July 26, 2024.
