Would you like to give some feedback to the Jobs and Leadership Sub-committee creating the City's Youth Master Plan? The plan is being developed with the help of businesses, residents of all ages, and community and service organizations serving youth. Your opinions and information are eagerly sought.
In assessing needs, Alyson Atkinson, member at large and chair of the Jobs and Leadership sub-committee, learned that a high percentage of Pleasanton high school and middle school students wanted local career and job information.
To assist students, Atkinson and her committee want to know about your company's interest in several areas. They are: participating in a youth career fair or internship program; offering entry-level jobs for high school youth and summer jobs for those ages 15 to 22; providing training in your business; talking with other businesses about creating youth employment; working with a liaison to place young people in jobs and job training in your business; and attending a Youth Master Plan steering committee meeting to discuss jobs and leadership opportunities with members.
Jobs and leadership is just one aspect of a comprehensive plan being devised by the Youth Master Plan committee. They are looking at five important areas: child care and supervised youth activities, communication and coordination, healthy youth and families, intergenerational relationships, and jobs and leadership. The final report will be used as a basis for future planning and funding decisions.
YMP steering committee meetings, open to the public, are held from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on the second and fourth Mondays at the Pleasanton Library Community Room.
