Kaiser Permanente, the largest managed care organization in the U.S., was named the 2011 recipient of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Davies Award for Organizational Excellence for its leadership in the use of health information technology.

"The implementation of our world-class electronic health record, Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect, has shaped and improved how our physicians and care teams treat patients," said Phil Fasano, executive vice president and chief information officer, Kaiser Permanente. "The Davies Award recognizes the important role of health IT in improving care and the overall patient experience, the same goals we had in mind when beginning the KP HealthConnect project almost 10 years ago."

Kaiser Permanente's HealthConnect is the largest private-sector electronic health record system in the world. HIMSS is the largest global health IT industry organization, with more than 38,000 member organizations. Kaiser's IT operations are based in Hacienda.
IronPlanet

IronPlanet's first onsite and online auction totaled more than $50 million in sales from February 21-24. The four-day sale is IronPlanet's largest auction in company history. The company's web site is at www.ironplanet.com.

"We are very pleased with the seller and customer embracement as well as price performance of our inaugural Florida auction," said Greg Owens, CEO of IronPlanet. "For the first time in company history we hosted an onsite and online auction which resulted in our largest auction to date, providing further confirmation of the vast reach and efficiency of the IronPlanet business model."

More than 42,000 attendees from 146 countries participated over the four days in the auction. Buyers outside the U.S. bid on more than 65 percent of the equipment, with over 23 percent of units sold to international buyers. Items were sold from more than 172 sellers located in 44 states.

Currently sold to and deployed by law enforcement agencies, government agencies and telecom operators, the product has been successfully installed in a variety of cyber security and intelligence applications around the world, enabling cyber security professionals to "look back in time" in their networks.
