Extreme Cold Treatment Promises to Relieve Pain, Inflammation
This summer, Pleasanton will be one of the coldest places on Earth! That counterintuitive statement is true thanks to the arrival next month of a US Cryotherapy treatment center at 5684 Stoneridge Drive in Hacienda Plaza.
The company is a pioneer in "whole body cryotherapy," where an individual enters a cooled chamber in order to elicit a healing response from the body.
"Cryotherapy is a great holistic health option for anyone from athletes, to people experiencing pain and inflammation, to those seeking relief from stress," says Howe. "Our corporate motto is, 'Better Health, Faster Recovery.'"
After donning special boots and mittens to keep the extremities warm, those receiving treatment step into a special, super-cooled room.
"The temperature inside the chamber is going to be roughly negative 180 degrees, and you're going to be in there for up to three minutes," says Aaron Howe, owner of the Pleasanton center. "With these treatments, what you're going to feel is an overall better well-being and a faster recovery from injury and strenuous workouts."
According to the company's web site, the short exposure to extreme cold "stimulates skin sensors, activating a central nervous system response" which includes "the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain inhibitors and mood elevators, while the enhanced circulation activity (blood movement into and out of the core) decreases inflammation by clearing toxins and metabolic waste with a supply of oxygen and nutrient enriched blood to stimulate cellular regeneration." US Cryotherapy has delivered over 300,000 treatments since its founding in 2011. The company's corporate offices are in Davis and Roseville.
"In addition to full-body cryotherapy, we will also offer localized treatments using what we call our mini cryo, which is a machine that allows us to target specific areas of the body," says Howe. "You can do it in conjunction with the chamber or you can come in and do that as a stand alone treatment."
The Pleasanton location will also feature a hydro massage bed. "That is a five-minute treatment that compliments the experience" Howe says. "The bed circulates warm water giving you a head-to-toe massage."
Howe hopes to open the center in the month of June. No appointment will be necessary to receive a treatment. "Various affordable membership options will be available for our customers," he added.
