Chevys brings its popular Fresh Mex Run series to Hacienda on March 28. The event, billed as "the only nationwide traveling fiesta," will take place for the second consecutive year in the park. Over 1,000 runners attended last year's event. Projected attendance on the 28th is 1,800.
The Chevys on Owens Drive will host the five kilometer run/walk and ten kilometer run, and will also serve as the start and end point of each race. Participants will receive a sombrero, a race t-shirt and enjoy a Chevys buffet after the event. A mariachi band will be on hand to further enhance the fiesta atmosphere. A kids' run is also scheduled.
Other cities that will hold Fresh Mex runs this year include Phoenix, San Francisco, Portland, San Jose, and Sacramento.
Proceeds from the event will benefit local schools, which will also provide a number of volunteers to help with set up and cleanup.
The race course will wind its way through many of Hacienda's streets, making the run a virtual Tour de Hacienda.
While several streets will have single lanes closed to vehicle traffic, the event should not inconvenience those trying to access Hacienda businesses. Race promoters report that police and/or volunteers will be attending all major intersections in the park, ready to direct traffic should it become necessary to do so.
The course map for the 5K and 10K runs is pictured above.
There are several ways to register for the race. Registration forms are available at the Hacienda Chevys at 5877 Owens Drive. Forms are also available online at or by calling the race hotline at (800) 757-5275. The race coordinators may also be contacted via e-mail at ACoPEvents@aol.com.
Registration fees for adults begin at $18, with day-of-race registration available at $22. The Kiddie Run fee is just $5 and includes a t-shirt.
